March 2002 Chapter Meeting

11 MARCH 2002

A dry and chilly night brought a good turnout of approximately 70 members (and 30+ bikes). Summer must be coming.

Dave Badcock chaired the meeting and welcomed new members

Announcement
Kevin Wetherby is doing a special project on bikers and he welcomed anybody who is interested to be photographed for this project.

ABC of touring was explained. Join the fun by taking your bike to places with names starting A-Z and claim prizes.
New members encouraged to enrol in the mileage programme. HOG gives badges for mileage attained on your Harley. Lots of fun and collect mileage badges, first hurdle 10,000 miles

If you have been in HOG for over 5 years, life membership cost is reduced to half price.

Scottish Bike Show run - 10 March 2002. 5 rode out and 4 returned (1 eary-leaver!!)

Ladies of Harley
Our officer is now Margaret Young. This group is for ladies to get involved and get to know what is happening in the Chapter.

Harley 100th Anniversary
Harley UK have rented a 747 and are offering 14 and 21 day package to Milwaulkee cost $2,000.00
A shipping service is available for your bike from UK to USA for £600.00

Riders Edge
Riders Edge riders training is now £30.00 cheaper, if you are a HOG member.
Chapter officer can be trained at the chapter's expense - See DB for details

Quarterly Committee Meeting
A suggestion put forward on the new suggestion scheme (leaflets available from the café) was agreed. If any one wants to run the Great North Run 2002 for Muscular Dystrophy then contact the committee.

Director's Meeting
DB attended the HOG UK Director's Meeting. There were 22 UK HOG Chapter Directors there and 5 HOG Europe Representatives there. Chapter Directors encouraged HOG to have a UK Rally again, it look like the Aviemore Rally 2003 will be the UK 100th Anniversary with satellite links to Milwaulkee.
Please note the Aviemore rally this year dates as normal

7. Viking Invasion - 14 people have registered interest in this trip to Norway. Good prices for Geordie Chapter members £50.00 including your bike. 2-people, a double cabin and bike £100
Any one else interested? Leaves Weds 29 May 2002 from North Shields at 1.30pm
Bergen Chapter will meet us at Stavanger and take us on a ride out - meeting the ferry at Bergen at 4.30pm. Ferry arrives back at Stavanger at 11.00pm. Arrive North Shields Friday at 3.30 pm.
Then travelling to York via tyne tunnel with visiting Norwegians (vikings?).
Saturday sightseeing and ride-out in Yorkshire, Sat Night Party (on the river?)
Sunday 10.00am rideout…."ENGLAND vs NORWAY" football at 3.30pm
Shop will be open Sunday afternoon
All names & bike registration, HOG membership number and £50 needed for those who wish to participate by end of the month.
Please note any Chapter member can join in the run to York etc. on Friday afternoon at North Shields.
DB looking into hotel accommodation otherwise you can organise your own.

Government Lobbying
DB has submitted a letter on behalf of this Chapter reference our concerns over the new taxing of motorcycles. Waiting response.

Any other business
We have been contacted by Shoreham Beach HOG regarding our support for a charity run around the coastline of Britain in aid of Chestnut Tree House Hospice. Their ride starts in Worthing July 12th. Can any members in the Middlesbrough area offer them lodging for July 13th??

Alan Robertson of North West Harley Club is riding his push-bike for charity. It was proposed the proceeds from tonight's raffle be donated to this cause. (that was about £100)
