Hi there, my name is Debbie, I am the current Ladies of Harley. Just a brief bit about me as I don’t want to bore you!
I passed my bike test in 2001 – not long ago compared to most but recognising that I could and wanted to be better and safer when riding I entered the Advanced Riding programme. I passed and then decided to be an observer where I would be able to assist a lot of riders in gaining knowledge and expertise to enable them to pass their Advanced test. I did not stop there, becoming membership secretary for NAM and ultimately a Senior Observer. The first female in the North East, so the examiner told me. I was so chuffed but never thinking I knew it all as every time you go out there is always something new to learn.
I became involved with the Chapter through very good friends. Our very own Tom Cooper who was my Team Leader in NAM and Frank Allen, my associate who was the oldest associate to pass his Advanced test. Frank even came with me to get my butterfly tattoo.
Since becoming involved with the Chapter I have made so many new friends, firstly being a member just helping out here and there, then an Activities Officer and finally LOH.
I have had numerous bikes from off road, sports and tourers. The BMW 1200GS which I along with my husband and friends toured the last two years in France which I have to say was an amazing experience, from Mont Blanc and the Alps but especially riding over the Somme and experiencing Normandy was a very humbling experience a one I hope many of you can achieve. Now I have a Fat Bob and I love her. She is called Bobbi – yes I do name my bikes. I am still running her in and get out at every opportunity possible.
As LOH I really hope to get more of our Ladies involved, out on rides and having a ball. If there is any advice or support wanted just say. I am the gobby one with the loud laugh – you can’t miss me! Catch me at the meetings, on ride outs or one of the events organised. Come on lets LET’S ALL HAVE FUN!
Ride safe
